A Mask

Mask have always been a fascination for me. From the early Greek theater mask of comedy and tragedy to the fantastic Venetian mask. What do they really represent, what could possibly be their purpose? During a masked ball were they an equalizer of status, or just another fake facade to hide our true motives. In times of plague and illness or extremely foul, dusty, or cold air a way to protect our lives.

I believe my fascination stems from the knowing that we all have mask. A different face for the many different moods, people, and situations we deal with every day. A shield to hide behind, a bit of bravery we may not actually feel, or a reflection of our true selves that we at times even hide from ourselves. What is behind the curtain? The Oni mask representing our very demons…
