The In Between Time

8x-1256w (2022)

In Between, a pause, a deep breathe before starting something new… or in this case restarting. Spring still feels like it is a long time off, and our world is waiting for that sudden breathe of warmth that starts the whole process over. We are all waiting in this place between seasons, so excited to move forward with our lives. With the whispers of beauty and story we hope to again create with our chosen art. But are we ready to charge out this gate of tomorrow’s world?

Sometimes I feel ever ready, and of course then there are those false starts that leave us stumbling, and questioning, looking for a direction. Being a creative individual trying to live a creative life can be rather challenging. What should the story be… or should it be just a beautiful image, and leave a sense of peace and calm… does it even need to tell a story?

This is the in between time, that pause before a creative action, before the stroke of the paint brush or the click of the shutter. That time of “why” or for that matter “why not”, where I sometimes stumble. Another false start, a question like “is it worth it?”, should I be doing this, is the light good enough, or will this actually work? Will anybody like it? I have so many questions, it seems to be a minor miracle when I actually expose a sheet of film. And then if and when I do create an image, is it good enough top share ?

So many pits stops… way too much time spent “in between” that I forget a simple truth, that photography is actually a verb. Creativity is an action, and a hugh part of who I am! I live to create, and everything else from the “in between” shouldn’t matter… yet it will.

As I live, I will create. And of course, spring will come again.
